Historical Inaccuracy

Chick from the ’60s, necklace from the ’70s, dress from the ’80s, shoes from the ’90s, all edited with a 19th century touch.
No consistency what so ever. And you know what? There doesn’t always have to be.

Electric Boys at Rival Theatre

Electric Boys Logotype

Me and my friend Jen had a special invitation to the presentation of Electric Boys new album at the eminent Rival Hotel owned by Benny Andersson, the ABBA legend.

The hotel has a gorgeous movie theater where Electric Boys played their new songs for the first time. First thing that struck me was how beautiful the backdrop was. The layout, logo and colors. Really eye-catching. Their whole appearance and performance was very cool and groovy. Conny brings my thoughts to  Jimi Hendrix. A loud psychedelic rock star with a very compelling way of playing. Together as  a group they are tight and their live act is a versatile mix of storytelling and music.

The first half of the set with the new songs and the second half with the old . Can’t say that I’ve ever been to  a concert where I enjoyed songs that I had never heard before so much. They were really awesome and I can’t wait for the new album to come out. I will be back with the release date as soon as I find out. I did find out what the names of my favorite new songs were though. Father Popcorn’s Magic Oysters, Sometimes You Gotta Go Look For The Car, Nowhere To Go But Up and Reeferlord.

A little bit about the group: Electric boys is one of the first bands from the funk-metal-psychedelia-phenomenon of the ’80s & ’90s. They formed in 1988. They have made four albums and one “Best of” that was released on 2009.

This is simply brilliant. I would try to catch a show if I were you. For tour dates check Electric Boys MySpace/ web page

Lizzy and the Crow

Elizia Savage - The Kid Crow

This is a picture of my daughter Elizia. You know how the crow brings “death” in the movie “The Crow”? Well, this crow brings teddy bears : )

I don´t like to put make up on children. Not for the purpose of making them prettier. The whole idea makes my tummy turn. This picture of my daughter is only for fun. More as a Halloween make-up for a party, Ok. We have talked about me painting her as a tiger or leopard. This is perfectly alright.

But there are others who think differently. Parents who put make up on their little girls in the purpose of making them more attractive in competitions. I am talking about parents that enter their daughters into Child Beauty pageants.

This is my opinion on that! Here in Sweden we don’t have this kind of shows. But in the U.S.A this is a common thing. Little children as young as five years old, sometimes even younger, in a ridiculous amount of make-up. And hairdos as advanced as a bride at her wedding. They even pose in bathing suits. It is really awful how the parents behave too, so competitive and putting so much pressure on their little girls to win. And it is all about the parent’s ego. We are not talking about parents getting all exited and cheering for their kid at a soccer game. We are talking about moms that teach their small children that happiness comes from being pretty and that perfection aisasked of them. To me it is just repulsive when the focus on beauty and appearance is forced on a kid. To win that trophy or crown becomes the most important thing. How twisted can a parent be?

When I was little I was climbing trees and exploring nature. In time all humans become self-absorbed and conscious about their look one way or another. But for children this should not be an issue. What kind of parent would put their child through this? I really feel sorry for these kids.

I started using make up at the age of  thirteen. My daughter is almost thirteen and I have finally let her use some make up. Maybe a bit too early… I am not sure. All the girls in her class wear make up. So I gave in…

1) What is your opinion on child beauty pageants?

2) When did you start using make up?

3) At what age is it OK for your kid to wear make up?(answer even if you don’t have a kid)

TREAT release party – Coup de Grace

Posted in Make Up - Savage Beauty, Personal with tags , , , , , , on March 18, 2010 by Tallee Savage

Treat coup-de-grace

Remember songs like “Get you on the run” “Too wild”, “Ride me high”, “World of promises”? Eighteen years since their last studio album (yes.. on vinyl) and you can now add new great songs to the list. The whole new album “COUP DE GRACE” is an explosion of melodic rock sing-along-songs. Catchy happy chorus lines. My favorite songs are “Papertiger”, “Roar” & “Breathless” (I really like the guitar solo on this song).

Yesterday we had an invitation to Treat’s release party. Of course me and my sister Amanda felt extra proud to be there. Being on the album cover and all. And not only that, we found or little figures on a lovely little pin, being sold in the merch stand. Of course we had to get a couple of those. But most of all I was happy to be part of the team contributing to the outcome of the look on a great CD, as the make up and the wardrobe were very essential part of the image on this album.

Coup de Grace release party

The event took place at the restaurant TYROL. This place has a rustic decor with Bavarian elements incorporated in the ambience. Really nice! The band hit the stage to indulge us with the new material. Great happy attitude on stage. Fine tight musical ensemble. You could see that TREAT were enjoying themselves and so were all the guests. It really felt like a school reunion. Lots of friends that I have not seen for a while all gathered together to party and give ourselves a TREAT.

Kamchatka

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on March 16, 2010 by Tallee Savage

If you never heard Kamchatka… Do it, Do it, Do it…Do it now!

Kamchatka - Volume IIIThis amazing trio simply blew me away by pumping life into the heart of  blues, rock and Jazz lines.

Kamchatka features three brilliant musicians in the form of Roger Öjersson on vocals and bass, Thomas Andersson on guitar and vocals and Tobias Strandvik on drums. They grew up in Varberg, a small town on the west of Sweden and have been together since 2002. New and fresh but sounding like they have landed from 1973. Grooving and convincing!

Influences are to name a few Jeff Buckley, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughn. But I can hint a little Deep Purple. Vocals hits some Glen Hughes nerves there and that is no shame as Glen is at least one of my absolute favorite singers of all times.

I have just listened to their third album “Kamchatka volume III ” . This disc has groove, soul, catchy lyrics and melody lines and the songs are flat-out heavy.  Brilliant musicians all the way!

This is perfect harmonization for my ears. After 30 seconds of the first song I just knew I would love this. And it is truly the best album I have heard in a long time. There is a number of elements that make this so damn compelling. But I will leave you with a MySpace link so that you can have a listen to some songs. Then do what I did and buy the record. It is worth every penny or “öre”. And enjoy this well crafted magnificent heavy blues tunes with the strength to swing the earth.

I can´t wait to see them live. I can only imagine that would be their true element which brings the music even higher.

TOKIO HOTEL – Live in Stockholm

Posted in Live Shows with tags , , , on March 5, 2010 by Tallee Savage

I just came home with my daughter Adina from a concert with Tokio Hotel at the Globe Arena.

These young lads have been playing together for nearly a decade now, Today still as teenagers they have sold millions of cd’s in their native country Germany alone.

Adina's invitation and cake for her Tokio Hotel themed birthday party in 2008 and Bill Kaulitz, singer of Tokio Hotel

The group was discovered by music producer Peter Hoffmann. He developed a successful plan and now the group is a huge business rollercoaster, that does not seem to have an ending. So what do we have here? They don’t write the songs themselves and the singer, has not got the best voice in “da biz”. A simple mayfly? Could be… but they have been together and succesful for quite some time now.

Who knows what the future has in store for these boys. For now, they are having a bunch of fun and they are under contract with (Interscope Records) Universal Music Group and they have developed a humungus marketing plan. Bill Kaulitz (the singer) has obtained an international rock icon status among teenage girls with his androgynous appearance and make up style. He was also chosen by fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld to take part in a photo shoot in the magazine Vouge. Would I like to do Bill Kaulitz make up? Sure I would. I think all men should wear make up, by the way : )

Bill Kaulitz with his different hair styles... 2008, 2009 and 2010

Anyway, my daughter Adina introduced me to their music back in 2007. Let me rephrase that… I was forced to wake up, shower, eat, watch TV, drive my car and sleep with the songs from Tokio Hotel to the point where it almost drove me crazy. Same songs over and over again. First in german, “Schrei”, and then in english, “Scream”. She wallpapered her bedroom with Tokio Hotel and Bill Kaulitz posters. Got a school bag with Tokio Hotel printed on it and just would not stop talking about the the band. Below you can see pictures from her emo-period. But.. you know what?.. I never complained once… I’d rather listen to Tokio Hotel than all that Beyonce or typical boy-group pop crap that is out there.

Adina during the photo shoot for the invitations to her 11th birthday party.

Yesterday, she finally got to see them live! Well, what can I say?  First of all, I was much older than everyone else. Not surprising, since the age range was between 10-16 years old. 6000 girls screaming their lungs out. There was no opening act and the guitarplayer did not play one guitar solo… Weird! Unfortunately  the concert did not do it for me, really… Sorry! The songs are not that strong and Bill’s voice is not happening. But the singer is enormously charismatic with a very cool stage presence. But the most fascinating and spectacular thing about it was the singer’s many different outfits. One after another with extravagant design… that could be something taken from the Andromeda galaxy. Unfortunately this band remains directed to the “little people”.

But Adina was happy and so were all the other thousands of kids and that makes me happy. So that was that that : )
