In a wink it was gone! Now it’s only one year until next time. I really can’t complain though as my chilean/american christmas lasts for three beautiful days. Same procedure as every year. Only this year we were 18 people, one more person with my sister Violeta’s and Roger’s baby Yindi Lo. It was nice, time of peace and good cheer with all political talk left aside (this year). It’s not easy being the chatelaine I tell you, it takes me a few weeks to prepare everything and when everybody leaves after three days I look like a troll doll (penntroll). The house is now quiet and as I sit in front of the fireplace relaxing, I do find myself missing everybody. I really LOVE having my big family around me <3

tallee-signI hope you all had a marvelous, wonderful, restful Christmas too. Here are some photos I took while doing our christmas photo sessions. First out is my daughter Adina.

The emerge of Racism and Xenophobia in Sweden!

Posted in Personal with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 2, 2014 by Tallee Savage

Despite my satisfaction of the recent Swedish election in September, I’m sad to say that 13% of the swedish people voted for a white supremacist and neo-Nazi supportive party. Yes, we struggle with the same depressing and ugly struggles that a lot of americans have to deal with. Negative, prejudice stereotypes and beliefs about threats that undermine the “True Swedish” ways. The same prejudice bullshit about immigrants being the problem for EVERYTHING: Unemployment, major cause of crime. Yes, of course if you have dark hair or skin you automatically fight, steal, sell drugs and rape women (???). Lies about us foreigners not wanting to work, or not working hard enough, or wanting to fit in… The Swedish people who earlier refrained from these beliefs and attitudes are growing and legitimizing their xenophobic beliefs and giving their votes to parties that have strong roots and implement polices from RRP (radical right-wing populist) parties. The fear of individuals or culture that might be “different” or “strange”. Yes, it is very sad because once racism receives parliamentary stronghold it might be difficult to get rid of it. It is simply vicious. How quick some people forget history ..huh?

Nevertheless 87% do remember and they see the beauty of a multicultural society. They as well as me also acknowledge the problems we are dealing with within the country, but we strive for a solution and do not believe in shutting down the borders on human beings that seek shelter from persecution, war, death, torture and hell. We do not give our votes to a xenophobic party because we are afraid and egocentric. The situation is deeply worrying but I’d like to strongly underline that most of Sweden’s politicians and its people are wonderful and open-minded and have always been known for their humane and enlightened point of view on this earth!

pippi-langstrump

I wrote something on my Facebook yesterday and I’d like to share it on my blog so that others can read it too. It is regarding the Swedish Public Service Television’s “SVT” decision to change a few insignificant little things from the TV adaptation of “Here Comes Pippi Longstocking” from 1969. We see the part where Pippi refers to her father as the “Negro King” removed. She now only says King. The other part is Pippi pulling her eyes so they skewed and then sing “ching ching chong”, impersonating an asian person. These parts were by swedish TV considered offensive and because the target of the audience are children they simply believe that it can be experienced as hurtful and demeaning for kids. Ok, so this made headlines everywhere in Sweden and lot of people whine and cry blood over this. Shouting and condemning others of being politically correct. Some bring up the problem of censorship, but of course it has also given the xenophobic people something to complain about. Turning it into a patriotic slap on people’s fingers and pointing accusation towards wanting to take a way the “swedishness” out of Sweden and resulting in giving racism more air under the wings.

They did absolutely the right thing to remove those small parts. This doesn’t change the story at all. It is not censorship as the state had nothing to do with it and Astrid Lindren herself stated in an interview that she regretted using the word negro and would remove it if it was possible. We all know the word is used as a demeaning term towards people from Africa, more like the word “nigger” really. I feel the world is changing and society with it, and no harm is done by cutting those parts out. My post on FB was in swedish but now you all know what it regards. Feel free to comment or give your opinion on ttallee-signhe matter in english or “på svenska” and remember “The ability to think different today than yesterday separates the wise from the stubborn.”

My Facebook post:
SVT tog bort ordet “Negerkung” ur Pippifilmen. Av allt skit som händer i världen så väljer många på fullaste allvar att klaga, gnälla och bli upprörd över detta?? Statusar på FB lyder”Jag skäms för att vara svensk”, “Fyyfaaan”, “Endast PK & moralpredik” … My God, get a fucking grip people!

This is an eye-opening documentary by Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite, following the controversial captivity of killer whales.
I too have experienced the excitement of watching a 8000 orca or “killer Whale” fly through the air at Sea World, always in perfect harmony with their trainers. One day a few years ago as I was visiting Sea World in San Diego I told myself NO MORE! Nothing in particular had happened, kids were happy and everything was “normal”… I just felt a hard sting in my heart… feeling I was wrong to be there, supporting this horrible and cruel treatment of these huge majestic mammals. I felt bad to my stomach for not realizing this sooner. Never again did I, nor will I set foot at Sea World or any other similar oceanarium again. Why?

Because a lot of the whales have been locked up in a place no bigger than a bath tub for over four decades, in dark and horrible small areas, being punished for misbehaviour. Of course accidents would happen sooner later. And they did… many times. You will see how nature gets revenge on man when pushed to its limits. The Sea World killer whale is responsible for the death of three individuals already. But Sea World told the public a different story. Hear and see the shocking never-before-seen stories and footage of many workers and trainers who were misled for many years from the highly profitable sea-park industry.

Please watch it, show your kids, share it, think about it! A lot of people do care, but have no clue of how these animals are treated and what they feel. These are highly intelligent and enormously sentient fellow mammals and they deserve to be free! Protest to these animals being captured, caged, displayed mistreated and tortured. Watch the movie and tell me here what you thought of it. Available on Netflix!

A session with Fine Art Nude model Jasmine Sundström. A girl with many passions, but what I like the most about her is her bright and joyful way of seeing life in general. Always conducting interesting debates, open-minded and eager to learn. Extremely easy to work with too.  Here is a previous session from last year if you’d like to check that out as well. “Androgyny Fashion

We had an Easter dinner with both sides of the family (24 people). Conveniently on the same date as my daughter Adina turned 17 years old (Selfie pic below).

Lots of vegetarian food. No, we don’t care about the traditional easter foods. We eat whatever comes to mind that day. My contribution this year was a vegetarian coconut milk stew with spinach and chickpeas and vegetarian meatballs. It took me and my daughter Elizia hours to roll them and it was frustrating at first as they turned out square and flat before we got the hang of it. My son Tim’s Västerbotten’s cheese pie was undoubtedly and unanimously the most popular easter dish this year.

Frida – A friend I never knew

Posted in Personal with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on April 7, 2014 by Tallee Savage

fridaThese past couple of months I have thought a lot about a girl called Frida Hagdahl. She was a friend but I did not know her. She was what you call an ”acquaintance”. I met her at the most 10 times. At my friend Lotta Fischer Levén’s bachelorette party, at Lotta and Mats’ wedding in 2010, at festivals, KGB (the club in Stockholm she co-owned together with Hokan Pettersson and Fredde Lindberg) etc. She made a solid impression back then: Energetic, happy, funny, charming, kind, curious and cool. Knowing me, I would have embraced her and her friendship right there, because those are the kind of people who I like to have in my life. But for some reason time flew by and we never got closer than that. Last week I went to her funeral at the St Matteus Church. She had been struggling for six months with incurable lung cancer that quickly spread to her bones and finally her head. March 8 she departed this transitory life and entered upon an eternal sabbath of rest, only 36 years old.

She wrote a very sincere and detailed blog about her journey. FridaKGB Blogg>> It made me burst into tears many times… How she could seem so calm, organized and so honest about everything… knowing her days were counted. She was so ill and yet seemed so full of life. It felt incomprehensible with no way to really relate to what she was going through. I mean how do you deal with knowledge like that? I heard and saw the sadness in all our mutual friends and often thought about her family and relatives. Their pain… How unbearable the grief and anguish must have been and how tremendously they must miss her today :(

Last week, Thursday March 3, I decided to go to her funeral. I was little confused about whether it was proper or not to go to the funeral of someone you did not know so well. But close friends of Frida, said that I should go, to support them and pay my respects. It was absolutely beautiful. I have never seen som many people in a funeral ever. You could tell right away this person had made an impact on many lives and a summary from the priest and all her friends gave me a clear picture that I had really missed out. I should have known her better as she was clearly one of those unique persons that you refer to as a ”keeper”. Anyway, it felt really good to be there among friends and all the humble love that was in the air. Beautiful music was performed by Mats Levén and Mia Coldheart and time stood still for a while leaving no eyes dry. My condolence to her family and boyfriend, friends and colleagues. R.I.P Frida

I lost my father, my aunt Alicia and my good friend Rigmor Malmsten in a way to early age to this despicable disease – Earth life closed – My friend Ludde Lindström has just been through a tough surgery after receiving the grim news of kidney cancer. We are all hoping the cancer stays the hell away and that he recovers well. Please support and feel the commitment for this organization or any other project that helps us get a step closer to finding cures for cancer, to achieve a higher survival rate and a reduction in the incidence of cancer, as we all, without exceptions are somehow affected in many ways sometime in life… one way or another. tallee-sign

The photo of my sister is now featuring on the cover of the latest issue of the Swedish Union Magazine for “Performing Arts and Film” (Teaterförbundet för scen och film) among other photos and projects we have done together and including a big interview with her. You can read how she and her colleagues work in a fabulous place that have dressed the Scandinavian Film and Theatre Industry since the 1930’s.
