1940s & 1950s Undergarment

Posted in Make Up - Savage Beauty, Model 40 with tags , , , , , , , , on January 4, 2011 by Tallee Savage

The Second World War had a major impact on clothing and undergarment. The first appearance of the panty-girdle and bullet bra in the 40’s appealed to both patriotism and protection and had a major impact on military women.  In the 1950’s, glamour became important to women as they had been deprived of this throughout the Second World War. Panty-girdles and bullet bras were essential garments and a definitive part of 40’s and 50’s culture and rose to popularity when worn by many Hollywood stars like Marilyn Monroe and Lana Turner. Although the bullet bra accentuated bust line and woman’s curves and assets, the girdle created a rigid, controlled figure that was seen respectable and modest.

These pictures of me are taken by photographer Göran Magnusson and edited by graphic designer Mattias Wilmenius. Clothes are from Independent Kostym.

Not only our mothers wore these formidable panty girdles. The trend goes back further as the girdles were considered essential garments by many women from about 1920 to the late 1960’s. Don’t you just love this photo?

New Year’s Eve 2010 / 2011

Posted in Personal with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on January 1, 2011 by Tallee Savage

Say goodbye to 2010 and welcome a brand new year 2011. We have a tradition of inviting our friends over to our home on New Year’s Eve. This year however we gladly accepted the invitation of our friends Thomas and Maria Emblad who lives in a magnificent house just south of Stockholm, because to me, it really doesn’t matter where you whoop it up, as long as you ring in the new year with loved ones. About 40 people were invited and half of them were new acquaintances for me. It is nice to meet new people and to hear their perception on life. Our hosts really outdid themselves with a great dinner and dessert. It was absolutely delicious; marinated quorn filé with potato gratin and strawberry pie, m m m m mmm!

This picture is taken in our home with my son Tim on New Years Eve just before we left to our friend’s party. Soon Tim returns to his work in Portugal. I will miss him dearly  : (

Peak of the evening (at 3 Am) was the rustic fire-heated hot tub that looks like a large wooden barrel. Heated by adding firewood into a furnace that is submerged in the water. Quirky feeling to walk out half-naked while it is snowing and jump into a wooden barrel filled with 38°C warm water and just enjoy the wonderful view outside the barrel. A perfect winter landscape of snow and ice with a resemblance of Narnia. Three hours and plenty of champagne and beers later , we were done, hot and tender. Ready to take on a the new year of 2011.

In the hot tub barrel with wonderful hosts Maria and Thomas Emblad and friends.

So I am looking back and thinking about what can be done better or different next year. I do have some new year resolutions but I really just plan on sputtering along doing the best I can and to grow whenever I see the opportunity. One main thing on my list is to get our Savage Beauty Photo Studio up and running. I will tell you more about this soon.

Until then, remember that;  Life comes with no guarantees or time-outs, so you have to live to the fullest. Dance in the pouring rain and smile until your face hurts. And don’t forget that the happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Savage X-mas

Being a tricultural or mixed child has made me very aware and thankful of the values and perceptions of different cultures. Never did I experience or have a conflict with the feeling of not “fitting in” during my childhood. I have felt Chile, U.S.A and Sweden all to be my homes. I often think about this. What this has meant to me as person, my way of thinking and seeing things. During christmas this thought is very vivid.

Today my house is very quiet, but from christmas eve until yesterday we had 20 people in our home for three days. Swedes, americans and chileans. A sweet mixture of languages, music, food and traditions. The same topic across the table changes from spanish to swedish and back in one second. The conversation to my left is about CIA’s assassination of commander Che Guevara and his guerillas in Bolivia and to my right I vividly join in to discuss the complaints about muslims. My statement is this; There are extremists in every political ideology and religion, that believe violence is the answer,  but they don´t account for everyone who share those beliefs. All this bullshit and bad talk about muslims…. I believe this counts for poor and discriminatory education. Anyway, across the table the conversation is “lighter”. Whitesnake is coming back to Sweden Rock Festival… again this summer. Some of my guests feels that David Coverdale’s voice is not what it used to be and therefore should not be welcome back to the festival. Oh boy…I must have a soft heart…Mr Coverdale is always welcome : )

Table is filled with food as usual when my stepdad Joaquin is involved. Generosity himself! A sweet mix from all the corners of the world and more extraordinary is that 70% is vegetarian food, because both my sisters and I decided to not eat animals a few decades back. A swedish christmas CD spreads the mood for an hour and then everyone gathers in front of the TV to enjoy a full Live sold out concert from OPETH’s 25-anniversary tour on Royal Albert Hall in England. Guitarist Fredrik is family to me, and is of course pleased with the choice of TV entertainment.

How was your christmas?

Latex Purple Fashion

Posted in Make Up - Savage Beauty, Model 40 with tags , , , , , on December 9, 2010 by Tallee Savage

I got this purple latex dress in L.A over a year ago. It is not a garment you would use continuously of course but I  must say it is extremely comfortable and I definitely wanted to perpetuate it while I still can get inside it. Photographer Göran Magnusson and I had a blast of laughter about my different ways of striking that pose which left me with aching muscles for days.

Thank you Matt for being so helpful with the bumper shine ; ) and thanks to hair stylist Sarah Maria for making my hair grow so long in one hour.

It is cold in Sweden right now. You can either sit home in front of the fireplace and sip hot chocolate OR go to a club and get warm together with some good friends, chill with a cold one and listen to some ass-kicking rock ‘n’ roll.

The Blacklist is a fine rock club that appears on different locations and is run by Jonas Danielsson, a good friend of ours. Here are some of the pictures I took those nights.

November 6th, Bonafide (Pontus Snibb) was on the menu. Good old school heavy rock ‘n’ roll. A couple of weeks later Pontus’ sweetheart Mia Coldheart,  frontwoman and guitar player of Crucified Barbara did us the honor.

Beautiful Mia Coldheart of Crucified Barbara. I have seen them live many times. Love them every time. Hope to do a project with them soon  :)

The Scams (Daniel Kvist) also played on December 2 –  My husband Matt and I just enjoying the evening at the posh bar and restaurant Café Opera in center Stockholm.

This is the first photo session I have done as a photographer in a studio. They are taken in Mariannelund during the Småland gathering no IV on october 1st. I have taken a lot of live photos at concerts in the past, but nothing in a studio. In my possession I have a new camera, namely a Nikon D3 with Nikon 24-50 lens, two Elinchrome D-lite 400 studio flashes, and more to come. To go with this I have three amazing good friends who are magnificent photographers to help me get started: Jörgen Lundh, Göran Magnusson and JenHell <3

I would like to thank Boel for being such a good sport and having patience with my styling of hair and make up, and Jörgen Lundh for being so kind and assisting me with the light. And last but not least Matt for creating such a suiting style with his graphic skills.

Hope you all like them cuz I’m on a roll here ; )

California Jam

Posted in Make Up - Savage Beauty, Model 40 with tags , , , , , , , on October 4, 2010 by Tallee Savage

I must have watched this concert on video about a couple of hundred times. Everytime I find it an exhilarating experience and think about how magnificent it must have been to have been there to see Deep Purple’s (Mk3) “California Jam” from April 6th, 1974. The festival was in Ontario and attracted 400,000 happy fans.

I love the distinctive funky edge that Glenn and Mr Coverdale blend in. They worked so good together. And Wow… Ritchie Blackmore blowing up the stage is priceless, but Glenn Hughes’ charismatic stage presence and wonderful voice is what has made my heart and head spin for a couple of decades now. The musicianship and charisma are unrivaled, and also I could never get that white bell-bottom suit that he wore out of my mind.

So you could pretty much say he inspired me for this photo session I did with photographer Göran Magnusson.

Unfortunately I never did see the set up with Glenn in Deep Purple, but I did see him in concert with former Pat Travers guitarist Pat Thrall in the duo Hughes/Thrall in L.A back in 1983 : )

Ooooh you must take a couple of minutes to see this. Deep Purples “Burn” from Carlifornia Jam.

Day of the Dead – (Dia de los Muertos)

Posted in Make Up - Savage Beauty, Model 40 with tags , , , , , on September 27, 2010 by Tallee Savage

From October 31st through November 2nd a number of festivals, holidays and solemnities take place, all loosely related and revolving around remembrance of the dead.

From the beginning of time, man has felt the need to explain the mystery of life and death. Many civilizations and cultures have created rituals to try to give meaning to human existence. To the indigenous people of Mexico, death was considered the passage to a new life and so the deceased were buried with many of their personal objects, which they would need on their next stop. Day of the Dead is not as morbid as it may sound, it is actually a beautiful ritual in which Mexicans happily and lovingly remember their loved relatives that have died.  In practical terms, it is also an opportunity for families to give annual maintenance to love ones and make the grave sites a blooming and beautiful place.

The souls are said to return each year to enjoy the pleasures that they once had in life. Isn’t that marvellous?

Lena Neogard Thomander is a beautiful woman and an adorable person as you can see. Also a very talented and cool drummer to add to it.

Lena is mostly known for her three years as a member of “The Railers”  from the TV-show “På Spåret”. She has played or toured with numerous swedish artists such as Markoolio, Charlotte Perrelli, Nanne Grönvall, Anne-Lie Rydé  and Lady B Goode.

The tour with Nanne Grönvall continues this fall and goes on until christmas with the last show in Båstad. She is also a member of The Moneypennies and Country Rox and is just about to take part in a family entertainment show on Swedish television.

This is the work we did with her for her promo pics. We have plans to work again soon.
